    You need to post a video how to use a FB442, my builder used these, why didn’t you just design them so the screws that go into a joist were already in the proper position instead of having to take the long screws out and move to to a different point, how about posting a video showing the correct method of using this contraption.

      Thank you for your feedback! We have instructions on our catalog page for installing the FB442 series, page R-15 of the 2022 catalog. I believe you are referring to the screws that get used to secure the fixture. There is a separate screw already positioned for securing the box to a joist. Not without needing to run a dedicated ground from the box to the panel. Instead, look at our assortment of metal InBox series, part numbers DSBVM1C for masonry, DSBVR1C for vinyl siding, DSBHR1C for retrofit among other part numbers. @@luke9822 The flange is necessary for the wing screws to hold it against the wall. I'm afraid we do not have any recessed boxes that are flange-less.

    • @luke9822
      @luke9822 3 роки тому

      @@aifittings The flange typically is placed on last for cosmetic reasons, and the wing nuts use the drywall and screws attached to the box to hold it in place. At least, that's how every single remodel electrical outlet works. The flange is just a face plate to hide the cutout.

    • @aifittings
      @aifittings 3 роки тому

      @@luke9822 I just finished talking to our customer service manager, and he said that you can omit the flange if you can mount the box to a stud. See spec sheet www.aimedia.co/media/spec-sheets/TVBU810.pdf for visual of stud mount. He also said the flange is necessary to use the wing screws. Without the flange the box would fall into the wall.

    What's considered a combustible wall? Every home I've ever seen that burned to the ground, the walls were incinerated, so it seems all home walls are combustible. Are you referring to brick or cinder block walls only when speaking of non-combustible?

    • @aifittings
      @aifittings 3 роки тому

      When referring to a combustible wall, we are referring to NEC 2017 Article 314.20, which reads: “In walls or ceilings with a surface of concrete, tile, gypsum,plaster, or other non-combustible material, boxes shall be installed so that the front edge of the box will not be set back of the finished surface more than 1/4" (6mm). In walls or ceilings constructed of wood or other combustible material, boxes shall be flush with the finished surface or project therefrom.” Thank you for your question!

      Drywall, as you point out does not survive a fire; however, house fire conditions are more extreme than electrical malfunctions, which is the risk being mitigated. I am not qualified to discuss whether drywall is suitable for this application so will not comment. The below link has a little more on that subject, but is not specific to electrical boxes. www.rumford.com/drywall.html

      1/2" drywall has a 30-minute fire rating. 5/8" drywall has a longer 1 hour fire rating. Most houses have 1/2" drywall.

    What we residential electricians want is an adjustable box to install at rough-in on the sub floor. Then adjust it up high about 1" above the sub-floor, that way the flooring guys can tile or hard wood right up to the box. When we come back for trim, lower the adjustable box just below their hardwood or tile and screw down a cover plate lid, and this being a box where the cords can drop down into the box. Why is this so hard? Seriously how has an engineer not thought of this yet?
